Citizenship
From snowy mountain tops, to grassy plains and ocean coasts, it’s no wonder that Canada is a tourist destination!
Basic Canadian Citizenship eligibility depends on the individual applicant. Factors assessed include:
- STATUS – must have valid status as Permanent Resident
- AGE – must be over 18 years of age (<18 requires a parent or guardian to apply)
- PHYSICAL PRESENCE – must have lived in Canada for 3 of the last 5 years immediately prior to the application
- TAXES – must have met income tax filing obligations, filing taxes in 3 of the last 5 years (minimum; if required)
- LANGUAGE – if 18 to 54 years old, must provide proof of English or French ability and knowledge of Canada
You may NOT be eligible for Canadian Citizenship if:
- you have unfulfilled conditions related to your Permanent Residence status in Canada;
- are under review for immigration or fraud reasons;
- are under a removal order; or
- you have committed certain crimes.
The current processing time for Canadian Citizenship applications is approximately 12 months.
